Thelma Louise (Patterson) Penwell

Thelma Louise (Patterson) Penwell, 81, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 10, 1938, in Byers, Ohio, the daughter of the late Paul Ronald and Rose Evelyn (Remy) Patterson. On December 7, 1953, in Great Falls, Montana, she was united in marriage with her loving husband, Theodore Penwell Sr., who preceded her in death in 2018.

Thelma is survived by her children, Debbie (Kelly) Park, of Chillicothe, Ted (JoAnn) Penwell Jr., of Chillicothe, and Terry (Keith) Dumm, of Circleville; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; aunt, Ruth Karshner; beloved pet, Sassy; and numerous other special family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Thelma’s legacy will be that of an extraordinary mother. She always put her family’s wellbeing before her own and the love she had for her family was unmeasurable. She served as the Treasurer of the Pickaway County Radio Patrol Club and was a active member of the American Legion Post 62 Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston. Burial will follow in Tarlton Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. at Hill’s.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in memory of her granddaughter, Lesley Nicole Park (700 Children’s Dr., Columbus, OH 43205) or National Church Residences Hospice (681 E. 3rd St., Waverly, OH 45690). Oh, so sad. She was my godmother. I'm sorry I didn't get to see her again. She is now in heaven with Teddy and my mom and dad. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thelma was an absolutely wonderful woman and I am so blessed by having known her. My heart breaks for Terry, Deb and Ted and all the grandkids, great-grandkids, etc. who will miss her radiant smile. May the memories you have hold her dear in your hearts. (Hugs) and prayers abound as you go through this time of transition.

With love and respect,

Our Schoelkoph family knew her as 'Patty', married to Ted. They were newlyweds living in a trailer court in Great Falls, Montana. There Ted was an Airforce soldier. In later years our family visited their family many times when they lived in Ohio. Patty and Ted's marriage was a teen love that lasted for many years. They took us [family] out on a lake on a platoon-a sweet memory. As a teenager, I got to go to a place where I square danced there. When in Montana, they had an early coup type car. How I loved that little car. They were both special to me. May they rest in peace. Blessings: Carol married to David, my teenage marriage focusing on our 53rd year.

So deeply saddened to hear of Thelma’s passing. Her and Ted were good friends of my grandparents, Jim and Pat Sweeney. Ted and Thelma both were kind and good hearted people, who always thought about others first.

My thoughts and prayers are with Thelma’s family.

I am so sorry to hear about Thelma passing. I loved her dearly. Her and Ted were my neighbors when I lived in Port Richey, FL. We would sit in their Florida room and visit or at our other neighbors home. I will miss hearing from her.
