Faye Marlene (Collins) Crago

Faye Marlene (Collins) Crago, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. The only child born to the late Jessie Osborn and Clara Evelyn (Hertenstein) Collins on September 23, 1935 in Ross County in her grandparent’s living room.  Faye always said they had one perfect child so they didn’t need anymore!

She was united in marriage to Charles Robert Crago on June 16, 1978 who preceded her in death April 14, 2005.  Charles and Faye spent 26 wonderful years together.  They loved to travel (especially to Florida) and play cards with family and friends.

Since Charles had been in the 8th Army Air Force, they attended many military reunions all over the United States.  Faye was also preceded in death by her step-daughter, Patricia Ann (Crago) Winans on January 3, 2003.

Many family members and friends knew her as Marlene but her favorite was Grandma and Mamaw! She is survived by two step-grandchildren, Bonita Gail Winans and Erik Alan Winans and his former wife, Sara Winans.

Mamaw is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren: James Allen Pontious III and his companion, Ashley Hott, Trinity Brena Nolan of Westland, Michigan; Ryan Matthew Winans and Sarek Marann Winans, both of Chillicothe.  Faye gave much of her love and time to these four children.

Also surviving are special nephews and their wives, Emmitt and Carolyn Collins and Roger and Sue Crago.  Also long-time friends (and sorority sister) John and Donna Stevens; special cousin, Michele and her husband, Jake Grooms; Ruth Ann Goodchild and June Sutherland; and special friends and neighbors, Noel and Pam Wiseman and their families.  She was also predeceased by her Aunt Jean Hertenstein and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Faye was a breast cancer survivor since 2008.  She graduated from the former Centralia High School in 1953, and she and her classmates have remained close with monthly luncheons.

She started working at Mead Corp. in the Order department when she was only 17 and soon became the teletype operator for the mill which she enjoyed very much.  She took a leave of absence in 1966 for 2 years; then became the receptionist at the Ross County Ambulatory Clinic until she retired in 1978 to become a homemaker.

Faye was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was baptized as a baby.  At the church’s closing, she transferred to Mt. Carmel Methodist Church where she was the pianist, an active member of the U.M.W., the C.C.O. committee, and D.E.W. committee. She was a member and Master of Elmdale Grange, member of Pomona Grange, a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, 388th Bomber Group and American’s Ex-Prisoners of War.  To say the least, Faye Marlene loved to be busy.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverside Methodist Hospital for their care and concern during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Pastor Carol Davis and Pastor Michael Rhoads officiating.
