Sue Kerns Obituary

Sue Anne (Cloud) Kerns

On October 14, 2022, the final school bell rang for Sue Anne (Cloud) Kerns, 78, of Lancaster, formerly of Kingston. She was born on June 15, 1944, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the daughter of the late Samuel and Marie (Perkins) Cloud.

She was married to her life long classmate and best friend for 54 years, Lawrence E. Kerns, who survives. A graduate of Kingston High School, she went on to get her Bachelor’s degree at Ohio University and Masters Degree from Mount St. Joseph University. When summer came, you would find her rocking in her chair on the back deck of their summer home in Maine.

In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by her son, Kent (Angela) Kerns, of Lancaster; daughter, Kacia (Cindee) Kerns, of Columbus; grandchildren, Noah (Ria) Kerns, Benjamin Kerns (Samantha Bishop), Samantha Kerns (Garrett Terry), Zachary Allton (Skyla Coleman), Katelyn Prickett (Sean Worthman) and Gabrielle Prickett (Ian Gilbertsen); four beautiful great grandchildren, Elyse Cross, Emery Worthman, John and Jock Kerns; niece, Deborah (Steven) Peedin; nephews, Jeffrey Cloud and Doug (Molly) Cloud; and great niece, Joanna (Stanley) Perkins. There are also many family members in Maine.  And we have to mention her beloved cat, Sky and lab, Comet.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sharon Cloud; nephews, Sammy Jo Cloud and Gregory Cloud; and niece, Roberta (Cloud) Wolfe.

Mrs. Kerns, as most of her students called her, taught for 35 years. During her career many experiments were run and lessons taught, but none more revered than learning all 206 bones of the body, aka the “Funky Chicken.”

Sue was a very devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kingston Chapter #411 for 56 years. She served as Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Ohio in 2011.  She was also a Member of Majors Temple #516, Ohio Pythian Sisters, for many years as well as being a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church.

Memorial services with an OES Service will be held on Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Hill’s.
