1939-2022

    Ewing Giffin, 83, of Wooster, Ohio passed peacefully on November 22, 2022. Ewing was born February 4, 1939, in Bellaire, Ohio, the son of the late Carl and Bessie Kreis Giffin. He married Alice Hill Giffin in the Hill family garden on July 1, 1961.

    Ewing graduated from The Ohio State University in 1961 with a degree in agriculture engineering and was a proud member of the Delta Theta Sigma Agriculture fraternity. Ewing began his career with the Allis-Chalmers Corporation, which brought he and Alice to Wayne county in 1969, where they have remained since. He went on to work for W.F. Weigley & Co. and AgriMark/Town and Country, where he worked until his retirement. In addition to college friendships, Ewing kept strong relationships with his Delta Theta Sigma brothers throughout his entire adult life.

    Ewing was an active member at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church for the last 45 years. He served many roles at Oak Chapel including Council Chairperson and Trustee, choir member, and most rewarding to Ewing general grounds up keep.  He leaves behind many cherished church friends – brothers and sisters in Christ.

    In addition to Ewing’s active roles at church, he was members of both the Wooster-Madisonburg Lions Club and the Country Squires Farm Bureau for many years. He served both organizations with zeal and interest until he was no longer able to do so.

    Ewing was happiest when he was on his tractors – whether he was cutting grass, planting fields, or just driving around.  Riding on tractors remained one of Ewing’s happiest places to be. He also worked on the farm for his neighbor and spent his life keeping many farmer’s equipment running smoothly for planting and harvest seasons. 

    Ewing will be greatly missed by his friends and family.  He is survived by his wife, Alice (Hill). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol (Steve) Ewing and Theresa (Todd) Colopy; nieces and nephews, Betsy Giffin, Calvin Giffin, Susan Gay-Brady, Jonathan (Misty) Gay, Lee (Beth) Petty, Kara (Shane) Schooley, Barry (Jennifer) Petty, Nathan (Jenny) Ewing, Sierra (Jeremy) Hill-Elkins, John Colopy, and Matt (Tiffany) Colopy. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin Giffin; sisters-in-law, Sue Gay and Judy Chandler; brother-in-law, Dale Hill; and nieces, Lou Ann Giffin Casey and Ellen Giffin. 

    Alice would like to express her heartfelt thanks to the staff of Ohio’s Hospice Life Care and Cleveland Clinic of Wooster Oncology doctor and staff for their care.  

    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Rev. John Finn and Rev. Barry Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Hill’s. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Chapel Church, Wooster, with Rev. John Finn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Ewing’s honor to Oak Chapel United Methodist Church (4203 W. Old Lincoln Way, Wooster, OH 44691), Rock Hill Presbyterian Church (56224 High Ridge Rd., Bellaire, OH 43906), or Ohio’s Hospice Life Care (1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691).
