Obituary

Willard Eugene Carter

Willard Eugene Carter, 82, of Kingston, peacefully entered Heaven while surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on March 13, 2024 at his beloved Maple Bend Farms.  He was born on October 28, 1941, in Kingston, to the late Willard and Golda (Crabtree) Carter.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty June Carter; his children, Pamela Vollmar (John Overly), Bethanie Carter, Angela (Brian) Martin; his grandchildren, Trey (Mariel) Vollmar, Haylee Vollmar (Jevan Stewart), Delaney Tittel, Braeden Martin, Kayden Tittel; his great-grandchildren, Ella Johnson, Bentlee Stewart, and Jax Vollmar; sister, Dorothy Coates; brother-in-law, Roger (Rita) Weaver; and numerous other special family and friends whom he adored.  In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by siblings, Edward, Delores, infant sister, Jewel, and Carol.

Eugene graduated from Centralia High School in 1960.  In his younger years, he served as a volunteer fireman for the Laurelville Fire Department.  In 1991, Eugene joined the Kingston National Bank Board of Directors, at which time he was appointed Chairman.  He retired from the Board of Directors in March of 2013.  He was a member of the Logan Elm Masonic Lodge #624.  In 2005, Eugene received the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Award in London, Ohio.

His farming career began in 1959 and it was Eugene's passion. He worked tirelessly to support his family and build his legacy.  Eugene loved giving rides to his grandchildren in the planter and combine, taking them fishing, and the boys hunting.  He and Betty loved taking rides around all the farms, looking at and admiring his crops and all of God's gifts.  He was a father figure and mentor to countless individuals in the community who depended on him for his wisdom, support, guidance, and love.  Eugene was kind, thoughtful, and generous, and went out of his way to help everyone from neighbors to strangers.
