Shirley A. (Schwalbaugh) Smith, 89, of Adelphi, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1936, in Laurelville, the daughter of the late Clem and Carrie (Pritchard) Schwalbaugh Sr. On May 1, 1954, she was united in marriage with her loving husband of almost 72 years, Robert F. Smith Jr., who survives.
Shirley is also survived by her children, Judy (Dave) Jarvis and Mike Smith; grandchildren, Heather Stack (Chad Lowe) and Corby (Lisa) Jarvis; great-grandchildren, Evan Yates, Maison (Jonathon) Forsythe, Maddox Stack, Sterling Jarvis, Meredith Jarvis, and Lily Jarvis; great-great-grandchildren, Rhetley, Coralyn, and Rhyker Forsythe; brothers-in-law, Glenn N. (Karen) Smith, James M. (Helen) Smith, and Charles D. (Judy) Smith; sister-in-law, Sandra Smith; special niece, Jane Rose; numerous other special nieces and nephews; and numerous other family members and friends whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Corlee S. Jarvis; siblings, Berman Schwalbaugh, Clem Schwalbaugh Jr., and Mildred McDonald; and brother-in-law, Donald L. Smith.
Shirley attended Laurelville High School. Shirley's most treasured role was that of homemaker and caregiver of her husband and family. She loved to spoil them with her cooking and baking, especially the grandchildren's favorite, freezer cookies. She enjoyed gardening, butterflies and flowers. She was known for her extensive obituary collection that spans decades and she enjoyed scrapbooking.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Pastor James Vandagriff officiating. Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi. The family will receive friends Monday from 3 - 7 p.m. at Hill's.
