Sharon Lee (Mace) Wertman
September 9, 1955 - July 27, 2024
Sharon Lee (Mace) Wertman, 68, of Laurelville, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Sharon was born at her family home in Adelphi on September 9, 1955, to Alfred and Mary Louise (Greeno) Mace. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; grandparents, Frank and Gladys Greeno; grandmother, Arthrella Mace; and her beloved older brother, Vance Mace.
Sharon is survived by her son, Tyler (Ashley); daughter, Cassidy (Stephanie); sisters, Connie and Karen; her treasured grandchildren, Elizabeth, Josephine, Eleanor, and Jack; her nephew, BJ (Amie); grandnephews, Braxton and Brock; and her former husband, Gary, with whom she was married for 41 years. Her family was the center of her universe.
Sharon found solace and joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for reading novels, watching true crime dramas on television, and developed into a knowledgeable and avid sports fan, particularly, the Cleveland Browns and Zane Trace Pioneers.
In later years, Sharon enjoyed tending to her garden, where she nurtured vibrant flowers with care and dedication. She found immense happiness in watching her children and grandchildren play sports, often with a camera in her hands. She was proud of their achievements but also fiercely protective of them when they didn't perform their best.
Sharon always loved children, as she enjoyed babysitting kids from Adelphi since her teenage years. However, her greatest joy came from caring for her grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. Spending time with them was the highlight of the last years of her life.
Christmas held a special place in Sharon's heart. She sacrificed her own wants and saved money year around to ensure her family experienced a large and magical Christmas morning. This tradition of love and generosity continues through her sisters, Connie and Karen, who honor Sharon's legacy by keeping the spirit of Christmas alive with the Mace family.
Sharon dedicated many years of her life as a devoted employee of the Chillicothe Kmart for 35 years, where she had many special friends. She was the true definition of a working mother; she rose early every day and went to work because she knew her family depended on her. She was a proud graduate of the Zane Trace Local School District Class of 1973, and she was known by her classmates as a gentle spirit who showed kindness to all.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi with Pastor James Vandagriff officiating.
