Russell E. Cottrill Russell Eugene "Gene" Cottrill, age 77, of Chillicothe, OH departed this world November 13, 2013. He was born December 27th, 1935 to the late John Lewis and Easter Lucille (Woodruff) Cottrill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Wayne, brother-in-law, Barney, and grandson, James. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Arlene Kay (Tatman) Cottrill; his sister, Mildred "Sis" Waters; four children Sherri, Randy (Melissa), Rick (Kim), and Crystal (Brad); 11 grandchildren Molly (Tim), Adam (Azia) , John, Katie, Anna (Nate), Russell, Richard, Ryan, Nikki, Chris, and Alya; and eight great-grandchildren Makina, Gracelynn, Miley, Brysonn, Cole, Maci, Baeleigh, and Jayce. He was a 1954 graduate of Unioto High School. After high school, he served his country in the Army from 1956 to 1964, including a stint during which he was stationed in Germany. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, he found work as a carpenter. From 1967-1988, he worked at Wear-Ever and Proctor Silex, attending a trade school in Columbus, Ohio from 1972-1976 to become a Tool and Die Maker Journeyman. He then worked for the Brown Corporation in Waverly, Ohio, retiring in 1997. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was known for muzzleloader shooting during Heritage Day. Hobbies included restoring antique cars, riding motorcycles, gunsmithing, attending coin club, gardening, playing music, baking, and pottery collecting. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He was an imaginative and creative man who designed the family home, a log cabin, based on a picture from a book. A loyal friend who always put others before himself, he will be eternally missed and remains forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be Monday 11 a.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston. Burial with military honors will follow in the Dunkard Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
