Rita S. Mergo

Rita S. Mergo, 91, of Kingston, passed away on Dec. 10, 2014. She was born on May 22, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Susan Harcharufka. Rita was married to John Mergo, who died November 4, 2000.

Rita is survived by her children, Susan Freemire ,of York, Pennsylvania, and John (Cindy) Mergo, of Kingston; 8 grandchildren: Joshua Freemire, Alexandra Freemire, John Mergo, Emily (Alex) Zur Linden, Paul (Rachel) Mergo, Jacob (Lacee) Pool, and Seth (LeeAnn) Rahe; sisters, Marie Dixon, Susan (Jack) Elias, Glorianne (Robert) Bohinski; and a brother; John (Annette) Harcharufka. She was also predeceased by her sister, Bernadine Riorden.

Rita graduated in 1941 from Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and obtained a Registered Nursing degree at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. In the 1970's, after years of nursing at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Rita became the Directress of Milford Manner nursing home in Pikesville, Maryland. Later in life, Rita worked in Child Care at ABC Care in Westminster, Maryland until she retired at age 84.

Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 19, 2014 at the Saint Peters Church, Chillicothe.  The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 30 p.m at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston.
