Phyllis Mae Betz Donahue
On August 12, 2013, Phyllis Mae Betz Donahue, or Mammy as she became to be known affectionately, joined God and her heavenly family and friends after 90 years of life on earth.
Phyllis lived every moment she was given. She rode a mechanical bull at 90, got a tattoo in her 80s, and always told you what was on her mind. She was always the life of any gathering she attended, making everyone smile and pulling anyone and everyone into conversation, whether she knew them or not.
Born in Kingston, Ohio, on March 2, 1923, Phyllis was the daughter of Lawrence and Goldie Betz. She was united in marriage to Marion (Jack) Donahue, who preceded her in death. They were married 51 years.
Phyllis was a member of the Simple Six Sewing Club and Kingston United Methodist Church, and also a lifetime member Order of the Eastern Star Ohio.
In 1967, she moved to Clearwater, FL, with her husband. In 1992, Phyllis retired from Clearwater Community Hospital and returned to her childhood home in Kingston, Ohio where she resided until her death.
Phyllis was predeceased by her son, Marc Keith Donahue. Phyllis is survived by sister, Ruth Snyder; brother, Charles (Bonnie) Betz; brother-in-law, Lowell (Barbara) Donahue; brother-in-law, Glenn Congrove; daughters, Jacquie (Lewis) Alexander; Cindy (David) Anderson. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, David Christopher (Toni) Anderson; Amy Christina (Gary) Gross, Ryan (Alicia) Alexander, and 11 Great Grandchildren. She is thankful for her "other" sons, Mike Bryant and John Wright and her special nephew, Dennis Congrove. She will also be missed by her dear childhood friend and fellow cheerleader from Kingston Union High School, Margie Cobb Beavers.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 6 PM at Hill Funeral Home at 24 W Ing St Kingston, OH 45644. Rev. Barry Bennett and Rev. Richard Patmore will officiate.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Phyllis' social spirit, the family requests donations to be made to the Phyllis Donahue- Meet and Eat Group at Kingston National Bank, PO Box 613 Kingston, OH 45644, to provide facilities for senior citizens to gather regularly for their meals at the Kingston United Methodist Church.
