Obituary

Norma Jane (Chaffin) Lowery

Norma Jane (Chaffin) Lowery, 84, of Chillicothe, Ohio, peacefully entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on April 20, 1942, Norma was the daughter of the late Richard Eugene Chaffin and Mary Amanda (Barnett) Chaffin. She was raised in a family grounded in faith, a foundation she carried with her throughout her life.

Norma shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Ernest Lee “Pete” Lowery. Together they built a home centered on faith, love, and family.

Norma believed the greatest work of her life was loving God, loving her family, and serving others. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful friend. She poured her life into caring for those she loved, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her home was one of warmth, generosity, and unconditional love.

Above all, Norma loved the Lord. She faithfully served Him for many years by quietly cleaning her church, transporting friends so they could attend worship services, visiting and encouraging others, praying for those in need, and joyfully helping wherever she was needed. She never sought recognition, believing that serving others was simply a way of serving Christ.

Her life was a quiet sermon—demonstrating that faith is best shown through humble service, steadfast love, and unwavering devotion to God and family. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, resilience, and the unwavering love she showed to everyone around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Lee “Pete” Lowery; her beloved son, Kevin Lowery; her parents, Richard Eugene Chaffin and Mary Amanda (Barnett) Chaffin; her brothers, Herbert Walter Chaffin (Clara), Richard Eugene Chaffin (Esther), Luther Chaffin (Emma Jean), and Lindy Chaffin (Shirley); her sisters, Mildred Opal Dearth (Charles) (George Kramer), Ella May Williamson, Ruby I. Ratcliff (Lloyd), Dorothy Brugh (Larry), and Ada Mary Chaffin; and the many loved ones who welcomed her into her eternal home.

She is survived by her children, Keith Lowery, Janet Leasure, Teresa Lowery, Ernest Lowery Jr., and Craig Lowery.

She was the proud grandmother of Lester Lowery, Steven Lowery, Candace Lowery, and Ernie Lowery (children of Keith); Ashley Elder (daughter of Janet); Timothy Wheeler, Karlie, and Jacob Hambrick (children of Teresa); Megan Clouser, Kayla Yuska, Nate Gillespie, and Madison Hatten (children of Ernest Jr.); and Jessica Lowery and William Lowery (children of Kevin).

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Gabe and Serenity (children of Candace); Mayson and Kenzie (children of Ashley); Landyn, Colton, Gracie, and Owen (children of Timothy); Kali (daughter of Karlie); Joel and Catherine Clouser (children of Megan); Olivia and Harrison (children of Kayla); and McKinley (daughter of Jessica).

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, her church family, and dear friends.

Norma’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her quiet acts of kindness, unwavering faith, and lifelong example of Christ’s love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue through the generations she so dearly loved.

Although her family deeply mourns her passing, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life, knowing she has been welcomed into the presence of her Savior with the words:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Matthew 25:23
