Lawrence "Larry" Raymond Large
Lawrence "Larry" Raymond Large, 74, of Kingston , died peacefully at home on Oct. 24, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 17, 1940 to the late Harvey and Margaret (Morris) Large. On August 29, 1959 , he married his high school sweetheart, Kay (Fellenstein) Large who survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Janet (Mark) O'Shaughnessy, Powell and Karen (Scott) Chenault, Chillicothe; granddaughters, Hannah and Sydney O'Shaughnessy, Powell; siblings, Marlin (Carole) Large, Doug (Phyllis) Paxton, Nancy (Harold) Wright, Alice (Don) Beavers, Mary (Bill) Moss, Linda (Tom) Snyder and David (Linda) Large; sisters in law, Jean (Crow) Large, Lida Meadows, Suzanne Fellenstein, Garnett Taylor and Anna Lee Swackhammer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by Noah and Alice (Mowery) Fellenstein; brothers, William, James and Jerald Large; and brothers in law, William Meadows, Eugene Fellenstein, Evan Taylor and Leroy Swackhammer.
In January 1966, Larry was drafted into the U. S. Army. He was a Specialist Five E5 and served in the Special Forces Unit as a Green Beret in the Vietnam War. He successfully completed U.S Army Intelligence School as an Intelligence Analyst Specialist. On March 1, 1968, he was awarded The Bronze Star Award for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.
Larry began his career in construction at the age of 13 working alongside of Russ Harper. Throughout his career he was employed by Martin & Netrole Construction , O'Connor Construction, L&K Motels Inc., and The Sherman R. Smoot Companies serving as a laborer and working his way to a Construction Superintendent. He was a member of The Carpenters Local #200 for 45 years.
Larry served his community by volunteering as a fireman, prior to being drafted into the US Army. He served on the Kingston Water Board, a Trustee with Springbank United Methodist M. Church and a member of the American Legion #291 of Kingston .
During his lifetime, Larry proudly served our God, our Country, the Kingston Community and our Family. "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your master.'
Please join our family in celebrating the life of Larry Large on Oct. 31, 2014 at 11:00 at Springbank United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Springbank Cemetery, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call on Thursday, from 2-8 pm at Hill Funeral Home, Kingston .
