Karen Lynn (Bates) Bright

Karen Lynn (Bates) Bright, 70, of Adelphi, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and love that touched everyone she encountered. Born on April 8, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio, Karen was the cherished daughter of the late Wilmer Brady Bates and Shirley Jean (Bentley) Bates-Lambert.

Karen graduated from Jackson High School, where she formed friendships and experiences that remained with her throughout her journey.

Karen worked for many years at Eastern Local Schools. More recently, she retired from The Scioto Society, where she found immense joy in managing the gift shop for the production of Tecumseh. Her role there was not just about managing; it was about creating an experience that everyone could enjoy.

In addition to her loving parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Russell Bolen; and sister, Shirley Garrick.

Karen’s family was the center of her universe, and she is survived by her devoted husband, Johnny Lee Bright, who stood by her side through all of life’s moments. Her legacy continues through her children, Rhonda Hatfield, Eric (Stephanie) Hatfield, and Kayla (Nick) Wing. As well as her seven grandchildren, Jordan, Brayden, Alyssa, Brennon, Gavin, Erica, and Oliver; and great grandchildren, Aylee, Jason, and John Henry.

For Karen, family was everything. Her youngest grandson, in particular, was a source of boundless delight in her life. She spent her days immersed in the simple pleasures of puzzles and her favorite television shows, always surrounded by the laughter and love of her family.

Karen was known for her incredible sense of humor and her ability to make everyone feel valued. Her doors and her heart were always open, and she was there for anyone in need, offering a listening ear or a helping hand. She was the epitome of what it means to be a great mom and grandma, and her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all those who knew her.

A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor Karen’s life will be held at Hill Funeral Home (24 W. Ing Street, Kingston, Ohio) at a date to be announced. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a woman who brought so much light into the world.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Karen's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring her spirit of generosity and compassion.
