John Wilcox Jordan
John Wilcox Jordan, 96, of Peterborough NH, passed away peacefully July 29, 2018, after a period of declining health. John was born in Louisa, Kentucky, the son of the late John and Trinnie Jordan. He was the last surviving child of 11.
John served his country as a Marine during WWII and was stationed on the USS Ranger as a Gunnery Sergeant. Upon returning from the war, John worked as the Service and Operations Manager at Hayes Motor Sales in Jaffrey, NH, before operating his own garage in Peterborough, where he worked until his retirement.
John met his late wife, Dorothy (Hayes), at a ball at the Bradford Ballroom in Boston, MA. They later moved to Peterborough, NH. He was a member of Peterborough Lions Club and was a Mason at the Altemont Lodge #26 in Peterborough, NH. He was also one of the founders of the Monadnock Sno-Moles Snowmobile Club, Rindge, NH.
John enjoyed all time spent outdoors; especially snowmobiling, enjoying a ride even at the age of 93. He was a car enthusiast, and enjoyed working on his classic AMC vehicles. He loved all animals, especially his "pups." A family man, John never forgot his roots in Ohio; and enjoyed his trips to visit his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
John is survived by his 3 sons, John B. Jordan, and his wife Jill, of Atlanta, GA, Paul E. Jordan, and his wife Heidy, of Temple, NH, and Robert A. Jordan, and his wife Heidi, of Epping, NH; 4 grandchildren: Christopher Jordan of Temple, NH, Luke Jordan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, J.D. Jordan, and his wife Elizabeth of Johns Creek, GA, and Derek Corrente of Epping, N.H., and two great-grandchildren, John Glen (Jack,) and Malcom. He also enjoyed the company of Marianne Burns during his later years.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Yellowbud Church of Jesus Christ, Yellowbud. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Ross County Veteran's Honor Guard. A reception will follow the burial at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston. Condolences can be made on John's online quest registry at www.hillfhkingston.com .
