Obituary

Florence (Sommers) Cryder passed peacefully Monday, February 6, 2012 at Adena Medical Center.  She was born near Bourneville, Ohio on November 28,1919 to Laura Hill Sommers and Nelson D. Sommers.  She attended Capital University in Columbus and taught elementary school in Baltimore, Ohio where she met Louis Earl Cryder.  They were married on February 14, 1942 and celebrated 50 years together before his death in 1992. Florence taught at Adelphi Elementary School as well as Zane Trace at the Kingston Junior High and the High School buildings. She was active in the Ross County Retired Teachers Association.  She was a leader of the Hallsville Friendly Neighbors 4-H Club for more than 40 years and served on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ross County Fair Board.  She was a long time member of the Extension Homemaker's Group, and received the Friend of   4-H Award in 1991.  Florence Taught Sunday School and played piano and the organ at Hallsville EUB Church and Colerain United Methodist Church. She is survived by six children: Carolyn (James) Essman, Washington C.H.,Ohio; Linda (Gerald) Lynkiewicz, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Richard (Meg) Cryder, Marysville, Ohio; Thomas (Darla) Cryder, Hallsville, Ohio; Michael (Annette) Cryder, North Canton, Ohio; and Janet (Kevin) Prickett, Kingston, Ohio.  She has seventeen grandchildren: Julie (Brian) Stevens, Susan (Steve Chang) Essman, Stephen (Michelle) Essman, Teresa (Brian) Neill, Genny Lynkiewicz, Sara (Dimitry Kharin) Lynkiewicz, Patrick Lynkiewicz, Peter (Patty Jo) Lynkiewicz, Jason Cryder, Laura (Joe) Young, Cynthia (Brian Barnhart) Cryder, Brian (Jill) Cryder, Scott (Suzanne) Cryder, Amy Cryder, Katrina (Thomas) Borland, Abigail Prickett, and Amanda Prickett. She has seventeen great- grandchildren: Daniel, Hannah, and Nathan Stevens; Benjamin and Eleanor Chang; Elaina and Andrew Essman; Eric and Adam Neill; Ava and Alex Kharin; Grant and Stella Young; Mia and Evan Cryder; and William and Addison Borland. Florence is also survived by brothers Clarence and Robert (Elizabeth) Sommers and sister Martha (Ralph) Turley.  She was predeceased by her sister Beatrice (James) Winfough. Friends and family may call Friday, February 10, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Hills Funeral Home in Kingston, Ohio.  Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:30 am, Reverend Gene Jividen officiating.
