Doris Marie (Gallaugher) Roberts

Doris Marie (Gallaugher) Roberts, born March 18, 1945, left behind a lifetime of love, laughter, hard work and more spicy pretzels than anyone could possibly count when she passed away on August 6, 2026.

If you knew Doris, you knew one thing for certain: she adored Gary.

Their marriage was the kind people hope for but rarely experience. They spent decades making the rest of us roll our eyes with their public displays of affection. Holding hands. Sneaking kisses. Acting like newlyweds long after they had grandchildren. To say Doris loved Gary would be an understatement. They were true partners in every sense of the word, building a beautiful life together through determination, sacrifice and an incredible amount of hard work.

Soon after they married, Doris and Gary moved to Madison County, where they built their family and farm. Doris wasn't just married to a farmer — she was one. From sunrise until well after sunset, she worked right alongside Gary doing whatever needed to be done. They earned everything they had together, and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way. In 1988, they returned to Ross County, carrying with them countless friendships and memories from their years in Madison County.

Doris's work ethic didn't end at the farm. She also worked at Lazarus and later at American Electric Power, where she brought the same kindness, reliability and quiet determination that defined every part of her life.

For many families, Doris and Gary became synonymous with the Green Range 4-H Club. They devoted years to mentoring young people, and Doris was often the creative force behind the scenes. If the club needed handmade signs, custom curtains to decorate livestock stalls or a place for kids to gather, she simply made it happen. She never looked for credit. She just loved helping young people succeed.

She had an artistic eye, endless patience and a knack for making things beautiful. School projects, 4-H displays, decorations — if something needed to be created, everyone hoped Doris would volunteer.

She also loved fashion. Macy's and TJ Maxx were two of her favorite places, and judging by the number of pairs of pants she owned, she never met a great bargain she didn't appreciate.

Then there was the food.

Doris's stromboli, cream cheese brownies and legendary spicy pretzels became part of her identity. She handed pretzels to pharmacists, met UPS and FedEx drivers in the driveway so they wouldn't leave empty-handed and made sure anyone who stopped by the house had something to take home. Feeding people was one of the many ways she showed them they mattered.

Nothing, however, mattered more than her family. Doris was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose kindness drew people to her throughout her life. Even during the last chapter of her life, caregivers, hospice nurses and aides couldn't help but love her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel like friends.

The family is especially grateful to Grace, Susan, Chuck, Abbi, Danielle, McKenzie and Gina for the compassionate care, dignity and love they gave Doris during her final year. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Gary Roberts; her children, Tammy Roberts Myers (Paul) and William Roberts (Denise); her grandchildren, Olyvia Knecht (Dylan), Josh Myers (Alicia), Jeremy Myers (Emily), Ben Roberts and Rebecca Schultz; and her great-grandchildren, Emersyn Knecht, Aly Myers, Lauryn and Maddie Myers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adena Hospice of Ross County or to the Madison County 4-H Endowment Fund through The Ohio State University.

Doris never sought attention or applause. She simply showed up every day for the people she loved. She worked hard, gave generously, welcomed everyone, loved fiercely and somehow always had another bag of spicy pretzels ready to share.
