Obituary

Dora Jane (Coey) Speakman

Dora Jane (Coey) Speakman, 85, of Kingston, passed peacefully Friday, November 7, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Dora was born on January 4, 1940, in Kingston, the daughter of the late Vernie William and Anna Geraldine (Price) Coey. On January 21, 1961, Dora united in marriage with her beloved husband of 63 years, Thurman Eugene Speakman, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2024.

They have three children, Debra (James McGinnis Jr), Raymond (Juliana), and William Joseph (Lynn). They have 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren: James McGinnis III (wife, Jennifer; children, Lydia and James IV), Tammy Weber (husband, Zach; children, Savannah—her children, Grayson and Brantley--RJ and Caitlyn), Hannah Karshner (children, Landan (fiancé, Diamond), and Cole), Caleb Eugene and Lloyd Eugene, Martha (husband, Richie; son, Zachary), Sarah (husband, Rod; children, Addisyn, Tristan and Lynnley), Rebekah (husband, Andrew; children, Bryson, Avery, Finn, and Aiden), Joe (wife, Heather; daughters, Joselyn and Presley) and Ryan (wife, Sara; children, Adi, Kai, Gabe and Jessup). Dora is also survived by her brother, Lloyd Coey (Holly); many special nieces and nephews; and numerous other family members and friends whom she cherished.

In addition to her husband, Dora was preceded in death by siblings, Forrest "Eddie" Coey, Herbert William Coey, and Bertha Mae Wilson.

Dora was the oldest of five children, growing up on a farm helping with her siblings and farm chores. She graduated from Southeastern High School in 1959. After graduation, she married Thurman and started her family. She took a job at General Electric and worked for 38 years before taking early retirement to care for her many grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved bowling. Dora was a fifty plus year member of the Chillicothe Bowling Association traveling to bowl in the national tournament multiple times. Dora was also an active member of the Pythian Sisters, dedicated to community service and altruistic efforts. Dora also found time to volunteer with Thurman at the Harrison Township Fire Department as an EMT and firefighter, at one point serving as assistant chief. Dora will always be remembered for her staunch support for her children and grandchildren's athletic endeavors; most time you could hear her support from the stands. Her love and support of the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals never wavered.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Rev. Bruce Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery, Londonderry. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Hill's.
