Donald "Jake" Brokaw

Donald "Jake" Brokaw, 84, of Laurelville, entered into Heaven on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1938, in Laurelville, the son of the late Herbert and Margaret (Hettinger) Brokaw. He married his lovely wife, JoAnne (Pritchard) Brokaw on March 23, 1957; she preceded him in death on February 4, 2023.

He will be sadly missed by his seven children, Lee (Rose) Brokaw, Jackie Karshner, David (Ruby) Brokaw, Jeff (Bridget) Brokaw, Trisha (Mike) Shaw, Debbie (Bob) Hattey, and Stephen (Cathy) Brokaw; grandchildren, Ryan (Samantha) Brokaw, Angie Brokaw, Kyle (Becca) Hartley, Kayla Wiggins, Chelsey Baum, Melissa Karshner, Stephanie Karshner, Haley-Jo Shaw, Stacey Brokaw, Jacob Brokaw, Emily Hattey, and Conner Brokaw; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Melvin Brokaw, Sue Garrett, and Patricia Leach; and many other cherished family members and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Shaw; siblings, Ronald Brokaw, Gary Brokaw, Larry Brokaw, and Kay Ebert; son-in-law, Michael Karshner; and daughter-in-law, Connie (Norton) Brokaw.

Don was an accomplished carpenter and retired from the Carpenters Local 200. After retirement, he continued to work at building homes and helping others. However, his greatest pride was the family he built. He passed on his love, knowledge and wisdom for building to his sons and the value of hard work to his daughters. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His favorite traditions were holidays and fish fries held at his home with his loving wife, family and friends.  He will be forever missed. Until we meet again.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston.
