Betty Moon Roe
Betty Moon Roe, 93, of Chillicothe, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:44 a.m. on September 10, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born in Defiance County on February 8, 1923 as the third child of Joseph D and Blanche A Koch Moon. After graduating from Ney High School she went on to nursing school at the then White Cross Hospital, in Columbus, where she met her soon to be husband, William K Roe, Jr of Ross County. They married on May 26, 1946 at Bill's family farm. Betty graduated from White Cross later that year as a registered nurse. Her family grew in the next three years with the addition of daughters Cathy and Marjorie and son Michael.
Through the years Betty worked part-time and full-time at nursing duties at the old Chillicothe Hospital, VA Hospital, Medical Center Hospital as well as in the offices of Dr. Holmes, the Ross County Health Department and Family Healthcare. She also was on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Ross County where she served as treasurer and helped with Bible Clubs.
God's gifts also include Marjie's husband, John Gerber, Mike's wife, Terry, five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren: Emily (Tyler) Tanner and her daughter, Astrid Derringer; Keely Black; Libby Burnett and her children Jaden McGriff and Jasmine Burnett; Sara and Hannah Roe. Her extended family includes Jim and Marjorie Roe of Lithopolis and Doris Briggs of Hilliard as well as many nieces and nephews scattered across several states.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a young brother, Edison, her older sister, Kathleen Huhman and younger brother, George. Her husband, Bill, passed away on May 8, 1999.
Graveside services will be held at Hallsville Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Bevan, of Lighthouse Baptist Church, officiating on Wednesday, September 14 at 11:00 am. Services have been entrusted to the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church (341 Clinton Road, Chillicothe, OH 45601) for furthering the gospel of Christ. The family is very appreciative of the very good care from National Church Residences Adult Daycare and Hospice personnel during Betty's illness.
