About Us

Hill Funeral Home is a family owned and operated firm devoted to providing families with personalized, hometown service. Our goal is to provide support and ease burden as much as possible by providing a family oriented and comforting atmosphere for our families in which healing can begin. Our professional and sympathetic staff guide our families through the entire process, ensuring that there is a familiar face through every stage. We view our work in funeral service as a ministry to our community as we are dedicated to comforting grieving families through inevitable loss.

Hill Funeral Home was founded by Loring Emerson Hill in 1934 fulfilling his childhood dream of living and working with the people of Ross, Pickaway, Hocking and Vinton counties in the Village of Kingston. Loring was well known for his elaborate rose gardens, decorative plate collections, and generosity in his community. Dale Emerson Hill continued his father’s manner of service and successfully operated the business throughout his 37 year career with his wife, Kathy. Dale was a 1974 graduate of Zane Trace High School, 1976 graduate of Capital University, and 1978 Cum Laude Graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.

After her father’s death in 2015, Sierra Sue Hill became a third generation funeral director and has continued the Hill tradition with her mother, Kathy. Sierra is a 2008 graduate of Zane Trace High School, 2012 graduate of Capital University, and received a master’s degree (MSW) from The Ohio State University in 2014. In addition to being a licensed funeral director, Sierra is a licensed social worker with a strong mental health and therapeutic background, which has allowed her to better serve families in this time of loss and transition.

Our current location was built by Loring in 1954 and underwent a complete ten year renovation by his son, Dale which featured stained glass windows, antique metal ceilings, homemade Vinton County red oak woodwork and oval backed oak seating. Dale processed the wood himself from timber from his own property in Vinton County from rough cut lumber to the timeless hardwood seen in the funeral home today. Renovations have continued including updating of our complimentary kitchen area, the addition of an easily accessible bathroom, and the recent addition of a family reception area, which is available for after service gatherings.
